Businesses need technology to survive today. A company that doesn’t have a website or e-mail address would probably fold in less than a year. Does this mean that having a website will save a business from failing? No, but having a business does meet many of the requirements a business should have to survive in the modern world.
For example, a website used to give a business greater visibility; having one will allow more people to know about a company. The business is still visible, even without the website and can profit from the immediate audience. Today, however, websites merely provide visibility, which means having a website will allow businesses to keep from getting drowned by the competition. It’s clear that business needs technology to stay alive, but can the same be said for the reverse? Can technology survive without business? The answer is a definite yes, but not for the reasons people think. Most people think that technology depends on businesses because nobody’s going to make and sell technology without the money to back it up. It’s a compelling argument, though not a hundred percent true.
Many of the greatest brains in engineering are currently employed by big companies to develop and manufacture the device of tomorrow. He doesn’t work for any major corporation, but has been able to create two of the world’s most advanced and well-designed single person transport systems in the world.
What technology needs is marketing. Tech doesn’t sell itself, it needs someone to go to the world and spread the word about what it is and what it can do. Scientists may very well be the most intelligent people in the world, but they may have a hard time talking to people who don’t understand their jargon.
The Internet has been around since the 80s, but it didn’t really take off until the end of the 90s. That fact could very well be a testament to how much technology needs marketing.
